Blog the Change Day

Today is Blog the Change Day - the day when pet lovers and pet bloggers come together to write about a cause that is near and dear to their hearts.

Earlier this week, Mary Haight of Dancing Dog Blog wrote that Petland Inc. has decided to stop selling puppies and kittens in their stores across Canada. This is great news, but the phase-out does not include their U.S. stores.

Working with Change.org, Mary created a petition asking Petland USA to also stop selling pets - and she has called upon her fellow bloggers to help spread the word.

Here's what you can do to help:

It takes just a few minutes to sign and share the petition. Another 15 minutes to write a short post on your blog. Together we can help save hundreds of thousands of lives. Let’s do it – now!

  2. Why is it bad to sell kitties and puppies in the stores? Are they puppy-mill or something? Here the store we go to sells only SPCA kitties in their shop.

  3. This is such an important issue, and one so many are just not even aware of - as we can tell from the previous comment! It's wonderful that dArtagnan Rumblepurr/Diego Hamlet Moonfur's particular store offers rescue kitties - but unfortunately not the norm for most pet store sales.

Thank you for blogging the change for animals!

  4. Kim - Rumblepurr's parents live in New Zealand, so they may not have the same issues with puppy/kitty mills as we do here in North America.

  6. Unfortunatley, part of the problem is that many Americans are also in the dark about where the pets in pet stores come from. I hope it's not an issue in New Zealand, but it certainly is here in the States. Thanks for helping spread the word, Vicki.

  7. I was so impressed with the number of people that participated. There is hope for real change now and the more we talk about it, especially with those who don't already care, the better!
