This week's Be the Change for Animals cause is Free Tony the Tiger. Tony is a 10 year-old tiger who lives at a truck stop in Gross Tete, LA. He is kept in a chain link and concrete cell surrounded by idling truck engines and diesel fumes. He can never escape the noise, the lights, or the boredom as he paces back and forth. Sight-seers continually crowd around his cage flashing lights in his face from cameras. There are even signs posted asking people not to throw things at him. It is a miserable existence for a magnificent animal - living alone with no enrichment or animals of his kind. Big Cat Rescue of Tampa, FL has offered Tony sanctuary, but his owner refuses.
In December 2010, the permit allowing Tony's owner to continue his exploitation is up for renewal. You can help free Tony by doing the following: 1) Send a letter to Louisiana representatives asking them deny this renewal and put an end to the private trade of tigers. 2) Sign the Change.org petition calling for the denial of the permit. 3) Share this story with your friends and followers and ask them to act too. Help free Tony so he can live his remaining years 5-10 years in the peaceful environment he so deserves!

ReplyDeleteHow do you make sense of one State like Louisiana. A State that for Ten years, thinks it is ok to keep an Endangered Tiger in Captivity. Not only in Captivity which is bad enough on it's own. In Captivity in a Small Concrete Cage used as a Gimmick.. as a Roadside Attraction at a Truckstop. This Tiger, this beautiful and soon to be a Rare Species is being used as a Humerous Sideshow..
ReplyDeleteHow rotten has the Human Species become when they can get away with such behavour? Can this Tiger be more humiliated then this? Can this Tiger be more disrespected then this do you think?
Think about this for one Minute. How do you think Tony's legs and joints feel after walking on Concrete for Ten years? How do you think his lungs are after breathing in toxins and fuel and diesel for Ten years? After Ten Years of being locked up in this small cage, with no enrichment, no stimulation, no pool, no Reg. Medical Care, no vitamins and minerals that are needed for captive cats. Not the proper nourishment...How do you think Tony the Tiger is really? Besides the obvious that shows the DRASTIC drop in Weight. How broken do you think his spirit is? Mentally, how healthy do you think this Tiger is?
Sooooooooo many Countries around the World are very Worried about Tony~ physically, mentally and spiritually.
....and Yet this State called Louisiana could give a damn about him, could give a damn about what they have done to An Endangered Precious Tiger and it's life. This State, this State's Government and it's infamous Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries....have forgetten to care about Tony the Truckstop Tiger.
They also forgot about another very Important thing....THE WORLD DOES CARE!!! THE WORLD DOES GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THIS ONE FORGOTTEN TIGER!!! THE REST OF THE WORLD HAS NOT FORGOTTEN AND WILL NEVER FORGET THAT THEY PUT TONY IN PRISON AND THEW AWAY THE KEY!!!
Please JOIN HIS FIGHT. Please help us ROAR FOR THIS FORGOTTEN TIGER. PLEASE NEVER GIVE UP ON TONY XO
Thank you for caring about Tony. It's so important to network Tony's story and gain more support for him. Hopefully with the support of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, Big Cat Rescue of Tampa FL and people all over the world voicing their concern for Tony, he will have the home, care, life and respect he deserves.
ReplyDeleteDawny & Freetonythetiger - fank u fur ur comments. i hope more peeps will share da story and helps free Tony! xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt is also important to call the Governor of Louisiana and complain. You might just get his message center, but that works just as well.
ReplyDeleteThe Louisiana Dept of Wildlife/Fisheries reports directly to the governor, so ultimately he is the one who will be responsible for this tiger's release or continued imprisonment. The phone number is 225-342-0991. Renewal for the permit will come up soon - so it is important to pass this information on. Sign the petition, send an email using this link http://ow.ly/3871m
and then call the governor to express your outrage over HIS state allowing such cruelty to continue. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE IN LOUSIANA TO GET A MESSAGE TO THE GOVERNOR !!!
