Amazon CARES Needs Your Help

Amazon Community Animal Rescue, Education and Safety (CARES) was founded in 2004 by citizens with a desire to protect the countless stray animals that roam the streets and villages of Peru.

While the outside world is focused on the important global and environmental issues facing the Amazon Rain Forest, there are no other programs in place for domestic animal welfare. Amazon CARES is the only charity in the entire Peruvian Amazon region dedicated to the protection of domestic animals and wildlife.

Studies show a strong link between animal and community health. CARES seeks better health and living conditions for ALL living beings of the Amazon region. This includes appropriate care, respect, and protection from cruelty and neglect.

Amazon CARES has received international recognition as an innovative charity based in the U.S. and operating in Peru. Programs extend far beyond animal health, and CARES is recognized for humane education, assisted animal therapy, and volunteer driven travel to areas with no access to veterinary care.

In addition to opening the most modern veterinary clinic in the town of Iquitos, Amazon CARES purchased two acres of property on the Rio Itaya, where they operate a no-kill animal shelter. Sadly, this area has recently experienced the worst flooding in decades, and the shelter needed to be completely rebuilt.

This massive effort has nearly destroyed the organization, and a matching grant that they depended upon will not occur for another 6-12 months. Please help spread the word about this dire situation and the important work that Amazon CARES does!

Here’s how you can help:
