Guest post: How to keep your dog healthy

Dogs don't know my name Dogs are our best friends and hence it is important to do everything possible to ensure that your dog remains healthy and happy. It is of vital importance to visit a vet regularly as this is the best way to address any diseases and prevent development any further health problems.

What are the signs that your dog has health problems?

Dogs need to have their health checked regularly by a vet, but there are certain signs that will tell you that there is something going on with your pet. Some of the most common signs include losing interest in food, drinking a lot of water and showing lack of stamina.

Your dog may be unhealthy if you notice any of the following: open sores on its body, a lack of hair, difficulty breathing, aggressiveness, stiff movements or yellowish tartar on its teeth. These symptoms are easily noticed, and they need to be taken care of by a professional vet.

Dogs can have problems with constipation and the reason may lie in its diet, which needs to contain enough moisture. It is also essential that you take your dog for a walk a few times a day. However, if walking doesn't help, you can try to soften his bowels by adding half a spoon of psyllium in its bowl of water.

It is also good idea to be careful with the food that you feed your dog. Avoid food that is over-processed.  It is best to consult your vet about what kind of food your furry friend needs to have.

In addition to food, you need to watch its water intake. Most urinary problems are caused by not taking in enough water. Give your dog plenty of water to drink, as this will help him to detoxify and prevent dehydration.

Make sure your dog gets enough exercise every day, as this will prevent many health problems that are connected with obesity. It also makes your dog happy, which will help relieve any stress.

Firstly, it is important to give your pet a diet that is nutrient-rich.When in the pet store, the best food you can opt for is organic kibble, which is made of real proteins, nutritious carbs and healthy oils. It is well worth it to spend some extra money, as this kind of kibble will ensure that your pet has the best diet possible.

It is advisable to include natural supplements in your dog's diet to boost its immune system, which will fight off diseases easily. Good supplements can include echinacea (helps detoxifying the lymph system), Indian ginseng (gives your dog energy and vitality) and mistletoe (fights off any diseases).

If you want the best for your dog, you have to do everything possible to keep it safe and healthy, including regular vet check-ups as well as monitoring its behavior. Dogs are a lot like humans, they will behave differently when they experience some kind of health problem.

  1. Thanks for posting this. Great tips and excellent advice on keeping your dog healthy. I post for dog lovers on this topic, too. Experience of raising 5 very different adopted dogs, taught and sent me seeking ways to keep dogs healthy.

One thing besides really wonderful walks everyday and visits to new places, is diet. Diet can reverse many skin problems. I also added flax oil to help my poodle mix to soften his bowels. Now that I've move him to a grain-free limited ingredient diet, Sydney doesn't need the flax oil.
