Find a new companion during adopt a shelter dog month

Via PRWeb - The Hartz Mountain Corporation is proud to announce its support for Adopt a Shelter Dog Month throughout October.

Hartz provides in-kind donations to over one hundred shelters, rescue organizations, fundraisers and adoption events each year.

Groups can reach out to Hartz Consumer Affairs via their website, a toll free number or even a special Facebook tab to request a donation.

Why Adopting a Shelter Dog is a Great Choice

An estimated 5 to 7 million animals enter animal shelters each year, and due to overcrowding and the possible stigma that still surrounds these perfectly healthy pets, between 3 and 4 million are euthanized each year.

While some prospective pet parents may avoid shelters, they are actually one of the best places to find a lifelong canine companion.

Dogs from animal shelters are often better socialized with humans and other animals. Most of the time they end up in shelters through no fault of their own and usually as a result of a previous owner's living arrangements.

Additionally, dogs from animal shelters may have already been given vaccinations, may be spayed or neutered, and can be less expensive than those found through breeders and commercial retailers.

When adding up all the benefits of shelter animals, plus the very real possibility that a new owner will be saving the dog's life, Adopt a Shelter Dog Month has the potential to give millions of dogs around the U.S. the chance to find stable, loving homes for the rest of their lives.

Hartz is committed to helping animal shelters across the country to improve the adoption rate and the health of the animals when they are adopted. They are also committed to educational programs that help improve the quality of life for all pets.

Animal rescue groups and shelters can request an in-kind donation from Hartz via their website or their Facebook page.
