HSUS Provides Resources for Rescue Groups through Rescue Central

There are an estimated 10,000 private rescue groups in the U.S. and Canada, including breed-specific groups, foster-based groups, sanctuaries, transport groups and spay/neuter groups. They play an essential role in helping to reduce the problems of animal homelessness and euthanasia in our communities.

Through Rescue Central, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is committed to providing those groups with the tools and resources they need to achieve even greater success.

Rescue Central will provide assistance and expertise to help animal rescue groups operate more efficiently and effectively, build coalitions, discover new tools and techniques for funding their operations and attain the highest levels of animal care. It will also provide rescue group leaders with a forum to interact, get and give advice, and share tips and ideas.

The Rescue Central site includes:

News You Can Use - like Beyond the Shelter: Establishing Your Bona Fidos - and Resources such as:
  • The Business of Saving Lives
  • Rescuing Done Right
  • Show Me the Money
  • Building Solid Relationships

The Rescue Central forum also allows rescue groups to interact with each other, ask for advice, and share information. This is limited to people who hold a leadership position within a rescue group organization. To join the Rescue Central forum, email with your name, your rescue group and your position.

For more information on Rescue Central, visit their web site. If you have questions about how the HSUS can help your rescue, email

  1. I'm so thankful to the families who open their home to foster. I'm hoping that we can do the same when my site takes off and I can spend more time at home caring for more dogs. What an awesome cause.
