North Shore Animal League America celebrates 20 years of Pet Adoptathon

Via PR NewswireNorth Shore Animal League America – the world's largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization – announced that over 2,000 shelters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, and eight international territories will join together for Pet Adoptathon Month in June, sponsored by Purina.

North Shore Animal League America will kick off the event at Pet Adoptathon headquarters in Port Washington, NY at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 31 and remain open for 36 straight hours. Thousands of participating shelters will host weekend Pet Adoptathon events promoting the benefits of shelter pet adoptions and showcasing hundreds of thousands of adorable puppies, kittens, dogs and cats available for adoption.

Pet Adoptathon activities will run through the month of June nationwide in an effort to raise awareness for shelter animals and save more lives. Since its inception in 1995, Pet Adoptathon events have taken place all over the world, helping find permanent and loving homes for over half a million animals.

"North Shore Animal League America and all the rescue organizations involved in Pet Adoptathon share a common goal to bring awareness to the plight of homeless animals world-wide," said Vice President of Operations Joanne Yohannan. "Together we will save the lives of over a hundred thousand homeless animals. Join us and save a life – adopt!”

An estimated 5 - 7 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens enter United States shelters annually, and tragically 3 - 4 million of these precious animals are euthanized. Millions of lives can be saved when potential pet parents make the choice to adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue group, instead of purchasing a pet from a pet store.

Pet Adoptathon is made possible thanks to the support of Presenting Sponsor Purina. For more information on Pet Adoptathon Month or to find a participating shelter near you, visit www.AnimalLeague.org.
