Adoptable Rabbits Available at Animal Friends

Animal Friends, located in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, is a non-profit companion animal resource center serving the needs of pets and people since 1943. Their nationally-recognized programs include humane rescue, shelter and adoption services for over 2,500 pets annually, humane education, pet behavior classes, pet-assisted therapy, wellness programs and more.

Animal Friends cares for 250 dogs, cats and rabbits on site and many more in foster homes. Each one of these animals has been thoroughly examined by their medical staff and has been spayed or neutered. Each pet is also "microchipped," or implanted with a small identification device that can help get them back home should they get lost.

Animal Friends hosts weekly Bun Runs, which are a great opportunity to meet all the rabbits they have available for adoption. Because the bunnies are free to roam, their personalities really get a chance to shine. Experienced rabbit volunteers are on hand to answer any questions about bunny care, and children are welcome but need adult supervision.

Here are a few rabbits currently available for adoption through Animal Friends:

Farfell is a spayed female English Spot. She is about five years old and weighs approximately two pounds. Farfell is exceptionally sweet, affectionate and gentle. She sports her beautiful white coat with subtle black spots on her ears and head so well that you will be smitten with her at first sight. Farfell is a great bunny that would benefit from finding a home where she can settle in and be herself.

Oscar is a neutered male gray Satin. He is about 10 months old and weighs approximately six pounds. Oscar is a young bunny that came to Animal Friends because his previous family could not spend enough time with him. So far, they’ve discovered that he enjoys carrots, tossing his toys around his cage, and he will burrow and play with a towel if given the opportunity. Oscar would benefit from a family who has time to love him and play with him.

Baby is a spayed female Rex Mix. She is around two years old and weighs approximately six pounds. Baby was rescued from a fate as a feeder rabbit by a kind soul who ended up not being able to keep her. Baby can be a little shy around new people and does not like to be picked up. She does like to play with chew toys and have her ears rubbed. The shelter volunteers think she’d do best with someone who has experience with rabbits.

If you are interested in any of these rabbits, contact Animal Friends at 412-847-7000 or visit their website at www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org.
