PetArmor provides ultimate protection to police dogs with protective vest donation

Via PR Newswire - PetArmor, known for its products that protect dogs and cats from fleas and ticks, will now also help protect four-legged K9 officers in the line of duty. As part of a yearlong partnership with Vested Interest in K9s, PetArmor will provide funding in 2013 for bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement K9s.

More often than not, law enforcement agencies do not have the budgets to provide vests for K9 officers — which cost around $1,000 each — leaving police dogs unprotected while helping to fight crime. Vested Interest in K9s is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing bullet and stab protective vests to police organizations nationwide. Since 2009, the non-profit organization has provided 375 vests.

"As a leader in pet protection, PetArmor is excited to partner with Vested Interest in K9s and protect the dogs that put their lives on the line to protect us," said Alex Kaufman, President and CEO of FidoPharm. "This partnership is a continuation of our ongoing animal welfare and charity efforts."

PetArmor's initial donation will result in vested dogs in Austin, Texas, as well as Jupiter and Riviera Beach, Fla. where police departments have requested assistance in vesting their police dogs. PetArmor also plans to announce an additional K9 vest donation as part of their 2013 commitment.

"Police K9 units provide an invaluable service to their community and deserve the same kind of protection as their human counterparts," said Sandy Marcal, founder of Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. "Thanks to PetArmor, many more police dogs will be protected from harm while they protect their neighborhoods and towns."

The K9 vests, manufactured by Armor Express, are custom sized to provide maximum comfort and mobility. The K9 vests provide maximum coverage to the vital organs in addition to a rear extension panel to accommodate dogs with longer torsos.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer charity located in East Taunton, Mass. whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States. The nonprofit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers.

President Sandy Marcal began working with law enforcement agencies in 2000 to coordinate efforts between various law enforcement agencies, vest sponsorships, fundraising events and the media within Massachusetts. In 2011, efforts were expanded to assist police dogs throughout the United States. More information on Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. can be found on their website: www.vik9s.org.
